Salta and surrounding

I just came from San Pedro de Atacama to Salta. I like to stay here for app 4-5 days before I leave to Bolivia where I go for Salar de Uyuni.

What would you suggest to visit in the area, what is not very similar to San Pedro or the way to Salar de Uyuni? Do you recommend to do 1-day trips from Salta or use the public buses and stay somewhere overnight?

Thanks for your feedback
Chris

Using public buses you can work your way slowly towards the Bolivian border staying a night or two in whichever town you please. I would recommend this over a rushed day tour.

Cafayate is a very worthwhile detour although in the opposite direction.

Salta itself can be enjoyed in a day or two.

Rent a car and drive Salta-Cachi-Cafayate-Salta. Stay the night in Cachi.
You can't really do this by public transport, so if you want to stick to buses, then a day trip to Cafayate, and some of the towns between Salta and the Bolivian border (e.g. Tilcara) would be a good option.
