It surprises me that I see no vacuum cleaners in Cuba. Is it still a mystery and banned appliance after Greene dissected it in Havana? His novel amusingly also tells about a frivolous cardinal who preferred mauve socks. It was a time when it probably was safer not to wear distinctly red or blue.

Jen: my post #14 was originally sent off for moderator review but finally posted. I can only assume that it was because it contained the Spanish term for black which is correctly used to describe a race of people.
