I'm thinking of sending him food parcels.

I wonder what he is dining on as we speak ;-)?

and a significant number of mulatto that refer to themselves as being white

They can try to pass themselves of as white as per your reply but their true color is embedded in their ID card

Jen: my post #14 was originally sent off for moderator review but finally posted. I can only assume that it was because it contained the Spanish term for black which is correctly used to describe a race of people. Did your post contain that same term?

I try to be non-confrontational but must speak out when anyone implies that term, used in any way, is any less than Caucasian.

I sat once on the marvelous el Malecón in Havana one afternoon with one of Canada’s most upcoming actors. He was in good shape and pointed out to me as we faced the wide ocean, “there, right out there is where the old man caught the big fish”. I strained my eyes and concentrated, but really I could see nothing.

They tell that Hemingway’s participation in the Spanish civil war was mediocre. Someone handed him a gun and he fired a shot. Literary analysis is a weird profession. But the Cubans seem to love him more than Cecilia Valdés.

It surprises me that I see no vacuum cleaners in Cuba. Is it still a mystery and banned appliance after Greene dissected it in Havana? His novel amusingly also tells about a frivolous cardinal who preferred mauve socks. It was a time when it probably was safer not to wear distinctly red or blue.

We are getting together next Tuesday night as I am arriving the day before and I believe Gary is leaving the day after. Should be fun.

#18 - Bob, yes I think I might have used a couple of words that are now verboten. I've emailed you my response. It is indeed an interesting subject :-)

I had a post "moderated" and that was 2 days ago. Simply disappeared and I do not have a clue, why.

The moderation here reminds me of the old George Carlin comedy piece about "the seven words you can't say on TV". Some day we will learn the words that trigger the red flag and the acceptable synonyms.

Some people have started writing in plural. Is that because they have a desire to moderate?

#23 I had the same experience ! It was a innocent post about varadero not being the worst choice to go for someone who hates resorts but wants to go to beaches.
