Learn French cheaply in Africa?
Hi there,I want to learn French in an intense programme in a French speaking country in Africa, but I am not finding too much online.
I have just been to Guatemala, and for $250 I got 25 hours of 1-on-1 lessons of Spanish, home stay, and meals. Hence I am hopefully looking for something around or close to that price in Africa.
It seems learning Spanish abroad is way more popular than French while backpacking.
I'd appreciate any information.
Thank you.

If people do not know the answer to this, what about the following question then:What are some of the cheapest French speaking countries in Africa to travel in?
How is their French compared to Western world French in general?
Thanks

The answer is that you will not find prices anywhere in Africa anywhere even remotely similar to prices in Guatemala. Period. And that goes for everything from lodging to transport to food to services.Having said that, I've found Burkina Faso cheaper than the norm, along with parts of Senegal and Morocco. Mali, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo and Niger were more expensive, but rural Benin wasn't bad.
There is no real language school scene in Africa AFAIK. I've heard about classes here and there, but no place with hordes of language tourists like those found in certain places in Central and South America. It also happens that there are few places in Africa where French is truly the primary language--tribal languages are widely used, with French or English generally a distant second. What's more, the quality of French spoken is not very good.
Hope that's helpful.

+ What's more, the quality of French spoken is not very good. +That might be true to someone fluent in French, but I found African French MUCH MORE easily understood than typical Parisian's whose French is equal in speed to New York English and thus harder to follow by less fluent types comment moi!

Morocco is propably your best bet everything considered. Fairly cheap, good french and a fantastic country overall. Not sure about french courses there, but thee must be something
