Thailand and Vietnam questions
I had a couple of questions. My friend needs to fly home in a week and he bought a one way ticket over. Would it be cheaper to fly out of Vietnam or Bangkok? He's going back to Alaska. Or is there any other place that's cheap to fly out of in SE Asia?I'm still going to be traveling and heading back to Thailand, and if I wanted to get to Ko Tao from Ko Samui would it be worth it to fly direct to Samui or train/bus south from Bangkok and get a ferry over?

Hi davidbell31!Welcome to TT!
You could consider to cross-post your question about Thailand in the Thailand branch.
Regarding flights, you'll have to research it by your own as there isn't a standard answer valid in all the cases. Take a look at webs like Skyscanner or Kayak or Orbitz or any other similar to see if on your friend's travel dates is cheaper to fly out of Bangkok or out or Ho Chi Minh (or out of Hanoi).

To be honest, flights fluctuate so much no one can give you an answer on that one. However, saying that Bangkok does consistently seem to stay near the cheaper end of the list.As for your second question it depends on how much time you have. When I was in Thailand I had months to spare and wasn't in a rush, so I got a coach down and ferrys over to the islands (stopping off in Hua Hin along the way to break up the journey). But if you have a limited amount of time, then fly to Samui and travel to other islands from there.
