Suggestion for a relaxing trip from Hanoi please

I'm looking at spending one or two nights somewhere peaceful and relaxing within about 4 hours from Hanoi.

Ideally, somewhere where I can stay in a hut on the river.

I thought about Mai Chau but I don't know if it's the sort of thing I'm looking for.

The next stop will be Ninh Binh, so if it means I don't have to return to Hanoi then all the better.

Thanks.

An enjoyable trip I have had is to catch the #47 bus from Long Bien station to Bat Trang ceramic village.
The village is okay for a walk about but it is the bus ride itself that is so memorable. Lots of the ride is along a levee and the bus passes a lot of old temples.
Also, you can guarantee some locals will want to talk to you; always entertaining.

Thanks Bassalegboy, those unexpected incidents make for the most interest experiences I think.

We're already going to Halong Bay at the end of the trip, thanks Bambooboy.

Go to Duong Lam Old village and find the mountain resort garden nearby, Moon Garden from Tonkin

Thanks #5.

Look nice. Is this easy to do by public transport as a day trip?
