Good point #101, this is clearly a case of upper management not realizing the damage they are doing to the product they bought (or doing so deliberately because they simply hate this forum). Heck, if I were a mod working under current conditions, I'd probably want to distance myself from this fiasco too.I'm going by comments like in the OP, "unfortunately, opening the archive requires an extra amount of technical work, meaning we are unable to do it at this very moment." To me, that sounds like they need to hire some people to clean up key aspects of the mess that's been made before public opinion turns completely rancid on the brand. The clock is ticking...
I'm still optimistic that it's going to bounce back once legit individuals get involved, crushed at the loss of vital information and I still believe THAT isn't coming back due to the simple fact that nobody wants to take the time to do it (which, again, has been stated as the reason... "too much work" to review old posts for the occasional ñ-word or whatever caused this disaster).

RE# 46QUOTE - "we know this functionality was not used for travel purposes in many cases."
After which go_2 replied
"How do you know that? By reading them - other people's private messages?"
On the earlier version of TT a similar question was asked on the old 'All About Thorntree' Branch. The then moderator Roman B replied - " I have no interest in the underbelly of your PMs".
If PMs were not being used to discuss travel or forum related matters, what were they being used for ? - online dating ?.
It brings to mind suspicion that powers that be feared Pms would enable users to organise resistance to the new regime.

In the WE branch is a "France & Italia in May and June" thread. When I was posting my last one it was controlled before arriving some minutes later in the thread. It was written inaprop. message.Supposing there will be no answer from the Mod's why or what is inappropriated If from now on all is controlled - like in any kindergarden - then it makes me thinking if I support this idea. Seeing my age it's strange to accept to be controlled by completly unknown young people,. Missing a lot of old posts from the last years, knowing private messages are read by the same men and women, and finding out that PM's did not existe anymore today....... beside the very good idea to write mails by skype, twitter and so on the question is if we need the LPTT forum any more. Or if I need to be member in here.

#105, I did see it, but to be frank I didn't understand it at all... the whole thing kind of creeped me out. Whatever ridiculous thing caused this overreaction I just hope the new "measures" will prevent it from happening in the future so we have the world's most kickin' travel forum in at least a somewhat useable form. Obviously there are going to be unsavory characters hanging around, I mean, being the internet...112
i'm too lazy to go check the T&C, but am reasonably sure that anything posted on this site becomes property of LP, including PMs. which would mean that mods have the right to read them.much like your parents have the right to read your diary but generally won't.
again, it would be so easy to set up a double-blind email system which wouldn't require LP to host private correspondance but would allow people to communicate off forum without giving out personal info until they were sure of the other person.

That still defeats the purpose Tartlet. Off line and On line are supremely different. I couldn't be bothered having to go to some email system. Example, on my last trip, another poster and I organised and arranged to met when I was in Hue. We used PM's for this. When I was over in Viet Nam we communicated through thorn tree.

C-C, it's not an extra email system, it uses what you already used when you signed up.so, i send you an email by clicking your name on here and writing something, but it goes directly to your own address. you reply to my email just like a normal email, and it lands in my email--but i don't see your email address anywhere, and you never see mine. so it is exactly like pms in that we don't have direct contact info for each other, but it is not hosted by the TT site so there's no issue of storage or responsability.
unless you're saying that while on the move you never check your emails, only TT.
