30Take AeroMexico leaving Vancouver at 6:35pm to LAX. Arrive LAX at 9:36pm and clear Customs/Immigration. Eat dinner and leave LAX at 1:20am, arriving in MX City at 9:05 am. Clear Customs/Immigration by 10-10:30 am, eat breakfast/lunch and catch the 1:00 pm flight to Oaxaca.
If you really despise MX City, fly to Guadalajara (GDL) and go from Guadalajara to Oaxaca on a luxury bus line.

33Not sure of the OP's underlying issue here. Cost, traffic jams, language barriers, deranged cops shooting up the airport or just a dislike of large cities.. The Mexico City airport may have very few places to sit down and poor bathrooms but Customs and Immigration are painless unless one does something silly when packing and gets a red light for a full Customs inspection. Nowhere near any TSA airport experience in the US.
Looks like a choice of either a $1200 airfare, or $650 or less with AirCanada and a $90 hotel room in Mexico City.
If the direct AirCanada flight gets into Mexico City at 8pm-ish, you should be out the door of Customs by 9-ish, walk out the door to meet your hotel shuttle and be at the front door of a decent hotel that costs less than $100, less than 10 minutes away. Dinner or asleep by 10.
The next morning after breakfast, the same shuttle will drop you off in front of the check-in area for a flight to Oaxaca. There are no traffic jams in the airport side of the city at 9 pm, or generally after 9 am the following morning.
My preferred hotel there is the Airport Ramada, 5 minutes from the terminal in a good shuttle, great security, English speaking staff and a decent room for about $90. Good luck to the OP.

35just to add my bit -- I fly PDX (Portland OR) to MEX, take a 20 min taxi ride to TAPO, hop on an ADO bus (restroom on board as good as any plane's, & six hours later I'm in Oaxaca city -- saves all that wasted time sitting in Houston, is way cheaper and the bus is great. All that back and forth with hotels and flight connections --- who needs it? ADO posts their schedule online, it is easy to see if you have a good connection. If you can swing a good flight connection, by all means, but there is no problem peeling out of MEX in good time.
