Drive from Poas to Monte Verde
Planning to go to Poas Volcano early morning and then La Paz. If we left La Paz how long would it take to drive to Monte Verde? Would like to arrive before dark.Or should we skip Poas and go to Arenal Volcano later in the week when we are closer.
Return trip, driving from Bijagua to San Jose...how long will that take?
Thanks

from la paz to monteverde is 3.5 - 4 hours. figure dark at around 6 pm.whether you skip poas and go to arenal is up to you. keep in mind that in monteverde, you are no closer to arenal because it takes 3 - 3.5 hours from arenal to monteverde.
from bijagua to san jose is about 4 hours - about 3.5 hours to the airport.
this should help you: http://www.yourtravelmap.com for distances and travel times

noonoonoo. no day trip to arenal from either monteverde or bijagua. it's not less than three hours one way, no matter how you cut it.If it were me, I would forget both poas and la paz and just go to monteverde, arenal and bijagua. you will need a minimum of two days in each place. it's much better to spend more time in arenal as there are so many things to do. if you decide that your time is too short, you CAN do a day trip to the tenorio national park for the hike to the rio celeste from arenal.
yeah, i know.... too many choices....not enough time.
not sure what you mean about "which volcano is better." the volcanoes are all different and have their own pluses and minuses. poas you can see the crater and the lake in it. tenorio is mostly covered by rainforest. as for zip line, i am no expert but you can look at these websites: http://www.monteverdeinfo.com and http://www.arenal.net where you can find information about the various zip lines.

La Paz to Monteverde involves returning to Alajuela and you will enter the Panamerican Highway (1)at the big intersection by the airport and drive all the way to one of the roads to Momteverde http://www.monteverdeinfo.com/northwest_cr.htm Each road from the highway to Santa Elena has it's proponents but the public bus takes the middle route ( at the big gas station after Sardinal) which is probably the shortest.
