Travel in Nothern Vietnam during week of April 30/May 1
Hi fellow travelers,I plan to travel around Northern Vietnam in the week of April 30/May 1 including travel from/to Sapa and Bai Tu Long Bay. I read that Vietnamese themselves like to travel a lot around those dates. Could anyone point out to me just how crowded it may get. Is is at all possible to get train tickets/bus tickets/hotels?
Any help is much appreciated!
Cheers,
Chris

Both Sapa and Halong Bay will be crowded but less than the beach. Locals prefer the sunny beach in the south more. You can get ticket if you book well in advance. it is not too late now.2
Bai Tu Long Bay is less crowded, especially if overnight on the traditional junk boats like Red Dragon, Prince, Dragon Pearl. The Vietnamese travellers will not overnight on these boats and they do not like the quite places like Vung Ha, Vung Vieng fishing village.4
Well, for starters May 1st or thereabouts is a national holiday in Vietnam (Labour Day). Also, in the north of the country the end of March is usually the return of consistently warm temperatures and nicer weather than the endless fog we're getting these days. Why are you looking for "plausible reasons" vbeck ? The OP is only asking about the crowd factor during that period...
