A week in Mongolia in late May 2013 - enough time for Gobi?

I'll be in UB for work in May and would like to stay on for a week at the end of month to see sights. I would love to see some of the Gobi and wonder if anyone has thoughts on a possible itinerary for this unfortunately brief trip. (I assume I would try to find other travellers to share costs for a jeep/driver).
Perhaps there are other interesting ways to spend the week instead of the Gobi? All thoughts very much appreciated!

1hi yes 1 wekk is okay to make a small but interesting tour in gobi desert
we went there several times and it s a good choice
i'll be again in mongolia in april for volunteer job in hospital after will make a tour with this agency
maybe usuful for you to compare and find companions to share
it's self tailor trip so you can do excatly what you want to do also with the companions you could find as also it could be less expensive that traditional guest house tours with freddom in bonus¨! so just remember to compare and decide for the best
maybe also here information
fell free to ask me more about the country and what possible to do
have nice trip

2Options for a week include either Gobi desert or Lake Khovsgul. Both trips normally are about 5 days total time.
Problems will be that at that time of year (late May) you may not have groups leaving daily but to keep costs down you probably want to be in a group.
Try contacting tour companies but also try contacting some of the better known guest houses and ask them if they know of other travelers planning to arrive when you do.

Re. your question “…perhaps there are other interesting ways to spend the week instead of the Gobi?” - In July/August 2012 we spent a few days in UB, did a one-day-trip to nearby Gorkhi-Terelj NP and hired a chauffeured car for a 3D2N-trip into the steppe (Orkhon Valley and Karakorum) which certainly could have been extended.

Happy and safe travels always, Matt.

Just checking in to see if your dates are finalized yet? I'll be arriving 5/31, departing 6/10 and will tour the Gobi from June 1-9. I've already got itineraries from tour companies but it would cut the cost for both of us if we go together. Let me know. I'll check back here, since I don't know how to private message you on here.
