Now that there's no more partying in Vang Vieng, I certainly wouldn't spend 5 nights there...I probably won't go back at all. I've heard Langkawi is incredibly boring and Penang kind of sucks. Maybe consider other stops in Malaysia for those days? I'm headed that way in a few months and i'm subbing in Tioman Island and Perhentian Kecil for where you would have the other two.5
you do not really tell us what things might be of interest to you so it is very difficult to help - there is so much that is not included places I love but would youyes it is very easy to get from Laos to CM but it will of course depend on where you cross the border and from Vientaine it will not be so easy

It would have helped if you had told us what you want from this trip. However, 5 days in Vang Vieng and just two in Ha Noi? Swap that around.
Not sure about 4 days in NT either. This could be better spent in say, Da Lat in the Central Highlands
And KL warrants more than one day too.

what is the point of having a detailed itinerary when you don't have a clue at this point which places you will like and which ones you won't? It's a complete excercise in futility (although not as ridiculously futile as asking complete strangers to comment on the aforementioned pointless itinerary).10
Many thanks for all of your comments- I will have a look at some changes today! I have visited some places previously but just wanted to have a bit of a plan so I know which direction to head in but will probably see how I feel in each place to determine length of stay. I'm considering cutting some out and heading to bali / Lombok also. I have a few more months so ill probably keep changing my mind! And thanks to you JJack for your pointless view on my 'pointless' itinerary!
