Taiwan teach visa
Hi,Was wondering if anyone could help with a visa query. I've read that to teach in Taiwan it's better to arrive with some sort of tourist visa because if you get the '90 day' visa on arrival at the airport, you will have to leave Taiwan to change it whereas a visa obtained before arriving can be upgraded in Taiwan. Is this true? Also, what excuse can you give the Taiwan embassy for wanting a different type of visit visa when you are eligible for a 90 day stay free of charge? Any experience of getting a different type of visa in Hong Kong or Bangkok or elsewhere in Asia?
Thank you.

What is your passport?I'm from the UK and got a 90-day stamp on arrival. I can change my stamp to a Visitor Visa, in-country, without having to leave .... in fact I am in the process of doing that right now. I can then get my ARC card with that visa, again without having to leave the country.
My girlfriend is American and she can do the same thing.
By the time you change your stamp to a visa, you'll already have a job, and you'll have a work permit, and the work permit office will have sent back all the paperwork. Take this paperwork, plus proof of address (apartment lease document) etc,. to the visa office to get your Visitor Visa. Then use the Visitor Visa to get your ARC card.
It's only if you don't find a job within 90 days of arrival that you'll have to leave the country and come back and start again. Otherwise you're fine.
