10 day trip to Europe
Hello people! My fiance lives in the US and I live in France. He visited me last year for a week and it was too short. Plus I'd planned far too much during that short period of time so we want to do it differently this time around.
He is planning on coming end of may and beginning of june for about 10 days. We really want to do Italy but don't know where to start. I have a seasonal job so our budget is really tight right now.
Where should we meet up? Should I meet him in Paris (I live 4 hours away) or should we both meet straight in Italy?
Do you have any idea where we could stay for 8 nights in Italy without emptying our bank accounts? Or should we just find a package deal and stay in one area of Italy and spend the rest of the time in my hometown in France?
If any of you have any ideas, or suggestions we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you travel pros!!

4hours from Paris - I'm guessing some where near Lyon? Hopefully not Nantes as that is in the other direction from Italy. If you are close to the Italian border then Torino, Genoa and Milan are good cities to hang around. You might want to spend some time in Florence. I did not find hostel accommodation expensive in Italy (check hostelbookers.com or similar) and they do have private rooms. If budget is a big constraint then a staycation (travel in your own hometown / area) will obviously cost you less AND you get to actually spend time doing things together and not just travelling.

Many years ago we had a couple of extended stays in Briancon, and loved it.True it is in France, but very close to the Italian border so close in fact that it is closer to Turin than it is to the nearest French city Grenoble.
It is a spread sort of a place and is in two parts, with the walled ' Old Town' claimed to be the highest town in Europe, and the lower modern town where the shops, supermarket and railway station is.
The walled town, or 'Haute Ville' as it is called, to us was a joy to us and we stayed there in the Hotel Central, opposite Vauban's church and used it as a base to explore villages and towns in the area, some in France and some in Italy............Highly recomended

Do you really think that anybody can give you a useful answer, if you don't tell usin which town you live
from which airport your fiance will fly in
at which date you will start your holidays
which are your interests: cities, museums, churches, art galleries, sculptures, castles, monasteries, discoes, medieval towns, beaches, lakes, mountains, archeological places, Greek temples, Roman theatres, Dolmen and Menhirs, Trulli.......?

Thank you for your input people! It is great to be able to have useful conversations with fellow humans :)As for the town I live in is called Saint Malo in Bretagne. My fiance and I are not picky, we just want to travel and were hoping to make it to Italy but plane tickets are crazy right now (from the US).
We just like sight seeing, we enjoy discovering night life. We'll be with each other which is what matters but we were wondering since I'm near the Dinard airport (that only flies to Stansted airport *inconvenient*) if we should just meet up in England and go from there?
We did London and England last year and want to try something new.
Thanks for your help!

Saint Malo is just 400 kms from Paris. There are tons of low cost flights from Paris to Italy. If you prefer to fly from Nantes (185 kms away), check http://www.volotea.com/fr Flights to 4 towns in Italy, fares start at 90 EUR7
BTW: if you really want to optimize your costs, you must compare all combinations of flights and fares from the top secret place in the US where your fiance lives to all places in Italy, direct ones's and those via a hub in the States or in Europe, taking into account that the combination of flights from the US to the "cheapest" hub in Europe with European low cost carriers for flights within Europe may be cheaper than through fares up to airports like Trapani.
