The RFB Guest House in Jo Burg is a great place to stay and the rates are really good. Here is the tripadvisor link.

arriving at 4pm and leaving the next day 10am doesnt really gives you a full day in johannesburg. by the time you reach your accommodation, it will be 6 at least, and the next day, you'll have to leave around 7, so not much time to visit anything. with more time, the apartheid museum would be my first recommendation.

All you have in Johannesburg is the evening of the day you arrive. Take the Gautrain to Sandton or Rosebank (where you should prebook accommodation) and enjoy the evening near where you will spend the night. Take the Gautrain back to the airport next morning. See:http://www.coastingafrica.com/region.php?mode=search for backpackers hostels - check out Backpackers Ritz and Rosebank Backpackers lodge (I have not stayed at either, but they seem to be in suitable areas).

There is a lot to see and do in and around the city..unfortunately you haven't got enough time to do it ;-)

You're in one of Africa's most dynamic cities - there's no time you need to kill, just a schedule to adjust so you can do it more justice...

I would suggest taking Gautrain into Rosebank, and spend the evening enjoying the nightlife in either Illovo, Parktown or Greenside.

Best,

Jem
