Long week San Francisco to Las Vegas

Hi,

We are planning our honeymoon to the USA june 2013. After 5 days NY we are flying to San Francisco
were we will pick up our rental car for 11 days en return home from Las Vegas.
Any tips for our trip?? Is there something what we cannot miss!?

We would like to go to Yosemite NP, but wich side of the parc is the best place for a beautifull view?
Does anyone have tips for a couple of days Yosemite?

Thx!

Plenty. But you need to tell us your interests first. History? Art? Music? Food? Hikes? Bikes? Night clubs? Strip clubs? Remember, we don't know you and what we like may be what you hate.

You want to stay in the valley.

Are you big hikers? Riders? Photographers? Or do you prefer to take a couple pictures and move on?

Overlooking Yosemite Valley is a site near Badger Pass, which you can drive to. It is straight above Camp Curry. On the route into Yosemite Valley, there are some views of El Capitan and Half Dome. Otherwise, you will need to hike up a trail beside Vernal and Nevada Falls or Yosemite Falls to get a view of the Valley. Be sure to have advance reservations, everything books up early.

Also, depending on when in June you are traveling, be aware that the Tioga Pass Road may still be closed for the season.

Does the 11 days include the time in San Francisco, or is it 11 days after you leave SF?

Lodging in Yosemite books up rapidly. NOW is not too early to be sure you have a place to stay. Staying Overnight in Yosemite. The Ahwahnee Hotel would be wonderful for a honeymoon,if you can afford it. The Wawona Hotel, the Tuolumne Meadows Lodge, the White Wolf Lodge, and the High Sierra Camps are not in Yosemite Valley, which is where you will want o spend most of your time. The official booking site also books the Tenaya Lodge which is not inside the park.

You do not need a car in San Francisco. In fact, it can be a burden as parking is expensive and can be hard to find. Hotels often charge $30 or more per day for parking. You will probably be happier if you do not pick up the car until you are ready to leave SF. There is good public transit, lots of taxis and the city is surprisingly walkable.

Do you have any interest in also visiting Los Angeles?

I'd definitely do the drive down Highway 1 after Yosemite, taking 2-3 nights. It is just a gorgeous drive.

Thx a lot so far!

bzookaj: We enjoy nature and hiking. We hiked for 5 days last year in Patagonia (torres del paines), so we are used to some pretty tough hikes. I really like taking pictures.

nutraxfornerves : SF is part of the 11 days unfortunately. We want stay in San Francisco for 2-3 nights before heading to Yosemite. Do you have any tips for San Francisco? We will rent a car the day we go on our way to Yosemite.

Try to get permits for Half Dome.
You could also try North Dome (from the Valley for a tough hike, or the Tioga Road for something a bit easier), or the Four Mile Trail (the supposed steepest in the park).
And Yosemite Falls.

Drop by Mono Lake on your way to Vegas.

And maybe Elkhorn Slough before Yosemite.
