Budget Beach Getaway Suggestions for 5-7 DaysWe are on our way to Guam, and we have found on very short notice that that we are able to break our trip in the Philppines for 5-7 days. We know next to nothing about the Philippines, and would appreciate some quick tips to jump-start our research.
We are looking for a laid-back beach destination that we can get to with a reasonably priced local flight (we will break our Guam journey in Manila).
Our priorities are:
Great Beach (snorkeling and kayaking are great, but we are not divers)
Real town, with local restaurants
Selection of budget-rate 'resorts' (not isolated all-inclusive compounds, please)
Access to nature/hiking excursions nearby
Access to island excursions, if possible.
There seems to be an overload of tropical paradises here; where to start looking? We would appreciate specific budget beach hotel recommendations, too. Feel free to respond respond via the personal message option if you prefer (before the Reformation, TT Terrorists used to jump all over anyone who suggested anything that hinted of commercial endorsements.)
We leave in March.
Thanks for your suggestions!

1it has to be close to an airport and it has to be rather tourist oriented and user friendly in that way for a Philippines first timer. Alona Beach at Bohol and Boracay I would suggest are the front runners, with maybe Dumaguete and Tambobo Bay/Apo coming into it too. You say '5-7 days'. If it's 7 days/6 nights and not 5 days/4 nights that makes a big difference and widens the net considerably.

2El Nido / Palawan checks all the boxes.
There are lots of budget places. Chislyk Cottages was the most reasonable I found, but that was a couple years ago so there may be better options now. El Nido is a bit disconnected (relatively speaking), so finding reliable, recent information online can be a challenge.

3"Great Beach...Real town, with local restaurants"...towns adjacent to beaches tend to ruin them, one possibility though it would be a reach in terms of getting there might be Bantayon Island. The beach is along the little settlement of Santa Fe, nice beach and though its not even a town Santa Fe has a few diversions and is rather picturesque.

Yes it does but the OP will spend a day either side getting there and back.
It also depends when in March the OP is talking about - if it's at the end, well it's Easter and transport and flights will be very busy. Otherwise, Callippo's and bounty's suggestions are good ones.
