One- or two- day trips from ArushaHello travellers,
I have search the forum for a while but I cannot find any posts about ideas and hints for one- or two-day trips from Arusha. I am interested in making such a short trip from Arusha and I was wondering if you can give some inputs.
The trips may be cultural (visiting local tribes), historical (visiting places of country significance), leisure, etc.
Any ideas and contacts of companies which do these trips are more than welcome.
Thanks in advance,

1Hi. I did a 3 day trip (staying away for two nights) to Lushoto in the Usambara Mountains. It's a beautiful region with great walking opportunities and you can visit local farms etc. I loved it and it's a nice contrast to Arusha. I got a small local company to organise it for me (Nature Bound Africa in Arusha) and they arranged transport, accommodation and a local guide for us - I was very happy with their service. The local guide took us on a half day walk through local farms, villages, and bushland. I'd highly recommend it!

2There are lots of suggestions on this TripAdvisor page:
If you want to visit a village or taste the northeastern Tanzanian culture, Moshi is probably a better place to do it. I cannot recommend any community organization here as I haven't used any. On a few occasions I have just boarded a matatu by myself and gone to Marangu village, which is fairly high on Kilimanjaro and has waterfall walks.
I have friends who were taken to see sick people, including AIDS victims, on the community visits, so just be aware of that. It isn't all fun and games.
Usambara is interesting but as the guy mentioned, it is a minimum two-night expedition. I personally like the South Pare Mountains more. They are less overcrowded and much more jungled. But like the Usambaras, it takes the best part of a day just to get up there, and another to come back.

5I'm planning to climb Kili in September and in the early stages of planning. Does anyone know if it's possible to do a 2 day safari to Serengeti from Moshi? If possible I would like to do that before the Kili climb.

6Check out Tanzaniacultural website for cultural opportunities. Also check out Zara Tours. I have a 1 day trip planned to a nice waterfall and lunch in a village from Moshi. The Serengeti is too far (6+hours drive to do a short trip unless you fly, which is more expensive. Good 1-2 day options are Arusha National Park or Tarangire National Park with many animals to see.
