Porto Williams to Punta Arenas Ferry
We are considering taking the ferry from PW to PA in mid Feb. looking for any comments from folks with recent experience. Also interested in the best way to get from Ushuaia to Porto Williams and a decent hostel in PW.1
I wanted to do that in 2011 but to get from Ushuaia to Puerto Williams cost almost as much as the boat from PW to PA. The only way I could see to get from Ushuaia to PW was by speed boat. Good luck.BTW I did enjoy the boat from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt

Yes, given that the Ushuaia-Puerto Navarino (NOT Puerto Williams - you need to transfer to a minivan for the final, slow 50km to Puerto Williams!) boat crosses an international border it is, for the distance involved, a horrendously expensive journey. As previous poster notes, it's cheaper from Chile - I bussed to Punta Arenas and then flew in with AerovĂas DAP, although these flights are very heavily booked. If you mean mid-Feb 2013 I doubt you'll get a seat. The ferry is the Yaghan and leaves once a week, at least it did in December when I was on Isla Navarino. I met two people who took it - apparently very scenic but not the world's most comfortable journey...A highly-recommended place to stay in PW is El Refugio del Padrino on the costanera right in front of the ferry terminal. It's run by the friendliest, most delightful Chilean lady you're ever likely to meet. Log fire, friendly atmosphere, even a huge crab feast thrown in (although sadly there will be no crab in February)!!
