Driving Central America

Hello! How viable is it to drive from U.S. to Panama? is it safe? How hard is it to cross the borders with no problem? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

You need the cars original title, it needs to be in your name, you need to do a ton paperwork at each border, car goes in your passport each country, cant leave without the car, can take 1 hour to 4 hours, best to cross borders by noon, dont drive at night, need to park in secure area/dont leave anything in car unattended, gas cost more, big cities are congested and best avoided.

Everything else, is right here,

Its not entirely safe. Its not a matter of viability. Can be hard to cross borders. Buses are cheap, go everywhere. that's the way to go.

The PanAmerican Highway makes it very easy and provided you have the right documents then borders are no problem. Its safe but you need hotels with secure car parks and not to consider sleeping in the car. It takes time and money and the will to drive all the way back....

It is very easy if you have patience and it is as safe as anything else. CR and MEX do not stamp the car into your passport so you can leave if need be. As per above, title in your name and drivers license, don't drive at night and secure parking always.
It is an adventure your first time but by your 10th it is just routine.

Don't wanna discourage you but crossing borders is a pain in the ass, it takes forever and you run into soooo many troubles, specially if you are driving a car like that.
