Rarely use it. Prefer "seafood cocktail' sauce in it's place. Mr. Weaver uses "Chili sauce".

It has its place. Hamburgers. French fries (chips)under certain circumstances. A component of Thousand Island dressing.

Ecuadorian ceviche often includes it, and it works.

We've had it once before.
I never encountered ceviche with ketchup, in Ecuador or anywhere. Salsa de tomate, salsa de aji, or just 'aji', but not ketchup.
I've had ceviche and tiradito many times and with different sauces, but never with ketchup.

There are other much nicer sauces to use. Aoili or straight mayonaise at a pinch for chips. Tartare with battered fish. Unless it's fresh home made tomato sauce (we dont' call it ketchup here) in which case I've have a large helping please.

Nice to see you .tagline there nutrax - I have borrowed those words on occasion.

When I read the origional post I thought the exact same thing... but I would also have it as a second choice condiement on the following : a Sausage sandwich if there was no Chutney, ditto a bacon butty or a FishFinger sandwich mabye with some Mayo also.

We use a little bit when cooking shrimp creole - we also use V-8 in it. I also use it sometimes when I have roasted chicken.

I prefer steak sauce or mustard on my hamburgers and nacho cheese sauce, mayonnaise or bbq sauce on my fries.

I usually make simple sauces based on mayo, mustard, sour cream or milk, and sometimes horseradish, often with lemon or lime juice.
Can't remember I've ever had ketchup in my fridge, but I can use it occasionally when travelling.

Forgot to add - ajvar and lutenica are fairly popular condiments from Balkan. They can be used instead of ketchup.

Ketchup is OK, but I rarely eat it. I've recently had quite a lot of salad cream. Before that I was having a lot of HP brown sauce. Tartare sauce for fish and Mint sauce for lamb though obviously.

Ketchup can also be a component of some barbecue sauces.

Salsa de tomate, salsa de aji, or just 'aji', but not ketchup.
"Salsa de tomate" is often used for ketchup. It's sometimes, but not always, worded as "salsa de tomate tipo ketchup" or "salsa de tomate ketchup."

I thought this was a rather different menu item from a fancy hotel in Guayaquil "Avocat farci aux grosses crevettes en salsa golf (mayonnaise et ketchup) et maracuja."

"Maracuja" is passionfruit.

Wikipedia says
Salsa golf (literally golf sauce) is a cold sauce of somewhat thick consistency, common in Argentina, Chile and Peru. According to legend, it was invented by Nobel laureate Luis Federico Leloir in the mid-1920s at a Golf Club at the seaside resort Mar del Plata. Tired of eating shrimp and prawn with mayonnaise, he asked the waiter to bring various ingredients (vinegar, lemon, mustard, ketchup, and others) and experimented with different mixtures. The best-liked was ketchup and mayonnaise. Leloir's companions named the result salsa golf and its fame grew.

I came up with a macro to put it in manually. I sometimes forget, so my posts don't always have it.
