Amazon

does anyone know how much does it cost and if it's easy/difficult to get a private guide from Iquitos to go for a trip?
We don't really want to go on those few days group trips.
is anyone planning to do that as well? we could hire a boat and share the costs

thanks !

Hey
When are you going to be in Iquitos and how long do you have for a jungle trip?

I'm planning something with Otorongo Expeditions. Start day is around the 1st of June 2013. After a few emails, they set up an itinerary for a trip and made it available publicly on their blog. You can check it out here: http://otoex.me/2013/01/26/group-camping-trip-available-for-first-week-of-june-with-otorongo-expeditions/

I'm sure if you try and contact any sort of expedition/tour agencies in Iquitos, they will be willing to tailor an itinerary for you (at a premium of course). I chose Otorongo because they have quite a few reviews on TripAdvisor and my inquiries were answered quickly. Also, the price quoted seemed reasonable and was somewhat negotiable.

I'm on my own right now I believe. Having others in the group would certainly make the costs go down a little bit.

Good luck!

Alex

If you just want to do day trips on the rivers for fishing, birdwatching, etc, you can easily find a local guide on the Malicon walkway. We used a guy named Johnnie for $10 each per day.

Hi guys . We recently came back from Iquitos and we had a fantastic time in the amazon jungle, You should check abundanciaecolodge, totally deep jungle with lot of wildlife and pink dolphins on the river , they have private local guides , but If you want a english speaker guide ,you should ask in advance for Miguel , he is the most experience that i have seen there and he speak perfect english, I think this guy is the owner. regards.
