India itinerary and travelling about advice needed

Hi there!

So I'm traveling to India next year, I'm currently trying to rough out a few places to visit, and the best way to get between them. I have about a month in India. Advice on the itinerary, or the best way to get between any of these places (buses, overnight trains, reg trains, flights, etc. ) would be much appreciated.

My current plan is Delhi - Jaipur - Jodpur - Agra - Khajuraho - Udaiper (this is one of the things I'm looking for help with... I've heard I should end in Agra to catch the overnight train to Jalgoan; or is there a better route?)

then Ajanta/Ellora - Hampi - possibly the beach in Goa for a day or two - Mumbai.

Let me know if you have any advice. Thanks!

Its a lot for a month. You'd only end up rushing your way through.

As a side note, it would help you if you pull out a decent map and plot a logical itinerary.

Overnight trains all the way, IMO. Buses are generally too uncomfortable.

Next year as in 2014 ?

Excellent, someone who plans well in advance.

Start here >> http://www.seat61.com/India.htm

and try this as a searching tool >> http://www.90di.com/travel/index.html#form_based_train_search_home_page

For train trip planning try the two website suggestions above.

If you are planning to travel from Delhi to Jaipur and Agra. Bus would be the better option because you can get more about India while travelling via road. You can book Bus Tickets in advance through websites. All the best for your trip.

This is one heck of an itinerray..it'll be pretty hectic
You can do the following:

Delhi -> Jodhpur -> Udaipur -> Jaipur (they are all in Rajasthan & separated by overnight bus/train journey

Jaipur -> agra (250 kms by road; approx 5 hrs by Bus)

Agra -> Khajuraho (better take a train; there are two trains one in the morning and another around 11pm..travel time is 7.5 hrs check www.indianrail.gov.in ; else take a train from Agra to Jhansi (3 hrs away & plenty of trains) & move forward by bus - 4-4.5 hrs journey

For Ajanta Ellora you need to go to Aurangabad..Hampi will be a bit out of the way..

Another option would Delhi - Khajuraho - Agra - Jaipur - Jodhpur - Udaipur and then catch a train from Abu Road to Jalgaon or Delhi - Khajuraho - Agra - Jaipur - Jodhpur - Udaipur - Ahmedabad and then catch a train for Jalgaon.
