Argentina in almost five weeks

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to see whether you can give me some advice on my trip to Argentina. It’s my first time to the country so everything I read about I seem to want to see :-) And obviously I don´t really have time to see everything!! I have about 5 weeks in the country in March/early April and wanted to taste a bit of everything without stretching myself to thin. I am just not sure whether I have succeeded!! If you could give me any advice on whether I have missed anything or trying to do too much that would be great. Anyway my itinerary thus far is:

1 - Iguaçu falls - 2 nights
2 – (flight or bus) Buenos Aries - 10 nights
3 – (flight or bus) Calafate - Glaciar Perito Moreno - 2 nights
4 – (Bus) El Chalten - Mt. Fitz Roy - 3 nights
5 – (Flight or bus) Bariloche - 3 nights
6 – (Flight or bus) Mendoza/Maipu and surrounds - 5 nights
7 – (Bus) Cordoba 3 nights
8 – (Flight or Bus) Salta and surrounds- 6 nights

I realise that travel time may eat into the time spent in each place as well, so not quite sure how that will all work. Anyway thanks guys :-)

You have given youself plenty of time. No worries on that front.

My only concern is 10 days in BA is to much. May be go accross to Uruguay for 2 or 3 days if you get bored of BA. Or if you feel that you need an extra day to your itinerary somewhere else, take from you assigned 10 days in BA.

agree with #1. you have given yourself plenty of time for each place and in indeed probably too much in the case of BA & Mendoza (in my opinion). Taking a day trip into Uruguay is a good option. other places you could consider fitting in (depending on your interests) and if you took 5 days off between BA & Mendoza would include
  • Puerto Madryn and Valdes Peninsula for wildlife......could also break up a long bus trip from BA going south
  • Ushuaia.....if flying is within your budget....can be difficult place to bus in and out of.

similar to above posters - does it have to be soley Argentina? why not head over and check out Torres del Paine if down in Calafate anyway? I personally really liked Ushuaia too.
I prefered both El Bolson and San Martin de los Andes to Bariloche and again you could combine with Chilean side (Pucon for eg). In Salta consider heading up to the Tilcara region.
Do note if you are busing and not flying there are some huge distance which will take up several days.

Thanks for the advice guys. My thoughts were to use Buenos Aires as a bit of a base and do day trips on the side. But I never thought about a couple of days in Uruguay. Sounds amazing. This can be done easily enough from Buenos Aires?

I also initially thought of going to Torres Del Paine as well but wasn´t sure how easy it was to get to and how long it would take. Will have to look more into it. Puerto Madryn and Ushuaia are definitely options too.. Just got to see how far my money can take me :-p . all these flights and bus can unfortunately can get expensive.

I don´t know much about the Tilcara region, but I will be heading to Bolivia after Argentina so this may be the perfect area to stop on the way. Thanks again guys.

as i mentioned on your post on the Bolivia forum.....if your budget is a concern then you could take a week of your current argentina trip and add that to Bolivia. you can easily cross over to Bolivia from the north west of Argentina after some time in Salta and the surronding region. Unfortunatley travel in Argentina is no longer cheap.
