Re-entry in India

Hi there!

We are travelling to Northern India in March and would like to visit Nepal for a week from Varanasi to come back to India later, as we are flying out back to Europe from Delhi. We´ve got multiple entries Indian Visas but we´ve been reading on the reentering policy of India and this issue with the 2 months gap. Information is a bit confussing, some websites say you just need to fill in a form when leaving the country, some others say this policy has been removed and doesn´t apply any longer. Can anyone provide us with updated accurate information on this?

Thanks a lot!

the policy has been removed. Or so they say ... Regardless you always could go to Nepal and back ... there was / is a neighboring country exemption. Don't worry about it.

Like # 1 said : there was an exemption for Nepal and other neighboring countries before , and the policy has been changed ... not only according to Idian papers , but also on the official immigration site. You´ll probably find it mentioned on the Indian embassy site in your home country as well.

They actually say this one publicly. Rare, to say the least -

I submitted my Passport for a new 6 month multi-entry Visa at the Indian Visa Office in Perth on Monday (Feb 11), and the very helpful and friendly Sikh guy there told me unequivocally this policy has been removed.

I had been caught out once before with this stipulation so needed a clear ruling.

Hi again guys!

Thanks a lot for the information. So it seems that this 2 months gap policy between entries to India has been removed.

Just one more thing: we´ll be in Gorakhpur early in the morning (9am) to get to Nepal. You think we could make the whole way to either Kathmandu or Pokhara on the same day? I´ve read there are buses leaving in the morning from Gorakhpur to the Nepali border (3 hours) and then we should take a bus to Kath/Pokh. Is it possible to reach Kath/Pokh the same day?
And what about the way back, so from either Kathmandu or Pokhara back to the same point of exit? Is it feasible to make the whole way to Gorakhpur?

Thanks again for your help!

Hej älskling !

Ktm is doable in one day , but a long slog . I'll probably break up the journey next time.

it's about 11 hrs (by bus) from the border on the Nepali side to KTM. by jeep could be a bit faster. you do the math if you could reach it the same day (minus the border formalities time) and travel time from Gorakhpur to the border.
