Travelling to withing India for 4 weeks in Aug 2013 with girl age 10and11
HiI am travelling to India in August 2013 for four weeks with my two daughter age 11 and 10 years. I would like to give them the experience of life in India. I have booked the plane ticket form London to Mumbai but have not planned anything while in India. I would like to do the fun thing with the kids they would like and enjoy while in India. We are planning to travel by train or coaches and find accommodation in guest house, hostel or B&B.
I seek your advice to make this a memorable trip for them. I would like to take them to desert in the north, may be visit the foothill of Himalaya, go on backwaters and final week in Goa with white sandy beach and calm/warm ocean waves.
I do not want to book anything in advance as we would like the flexibility and enjoy everything at our own pace. Please let me know if this is possible and should we be carrying our own sleeping bag.
I look forward to your reply.
Sunil

Hello there,My name is Kalyan Kulkarni and I'm based in Mumbai.
I am a Lawyer (have worked with British solicitor firm earlier) and also a travel enthusiast. My first advise for you is to postpone your travel if possible because August is the month of very heavy rainfall here in Mumbai. To get the good experience of the parts you mentioned in your post, you'll need at least 4 weeks.
I am more than willing to help you to plan you travel better. If interested, please contact me on +919850095868 or kalyankulkarni@rocketmail.com so that we can plan it together.
Regards,

As said above, August wont exactly be the best time to enjoy all that you want to.Plus, it would help if you can give us an idea as to what your daughters find 'fun' - are they looking for attractions like amusement parks, or like wildlife safaris, for example?
Moreover, you want to see different corners of the country in four weeks, and some would call it a bit rushed. Maybe it would serve you better to focus on particular region, rather than rushing to a new part of the country every few days.
That said and done, the coasts, although raining, will be gorgeously lush at the time. If you like the monsoons then by all means, go down to Goa and Kerala. You'll get amazing discounts to boot.
The foothills of the Himalayas will either be too muggy or raining. If you can, move further up and fly to Ladakh and spend a week or so there. The girls will have a great time visiting monasteries, interacting with interesting animals, staying in tented camps, and there are possibilities of rafting and trekking. The weather would be perfect as well.
In Rajasthan, weather will seriously weigh you down in most of the hotspots - Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur. I find Udaipur, however, to be at its best during the monsoons because the surroundings are green and the lakes are full. Same goes for places around Kota.
