It depends on his Passport, Nicaragua's Onward Travel requirements for that Nationality, as well as, some airlines in the USA, will enforce Onward Travel", so you need to look into everything. I would try to get him flight Via Mexico City instead of LA etc.

But from BKK, he needs to transit somewhere before the US/MX, usually Via Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo for most US Cities. Maybe also via Vancouver would help...

Check here.

Requirements-

FYI- He can transit via Shanghai or Beijing China for 72 hours Visa Free now for most western Passports, if he wants to enjoy a few days in China, can do the big cities for $35 day easy...

Transit Visa USA requires ESTA pre approved online...

thanks for the info and links. right now we have him flying into amsterdam, then to panama, then to managua. i have been reading that an onwardd is definitely needed. you can purchase a bus ticket to costa rica, which works for americans and canadians, however, he is a citizen and passsport holder from the philipines. i cannot seem to source if he will be alright. any thoughts? thanks, K
