Roatan late may. Reservations?

Hi,

We are two couples in our late 20's who planning on travelling to Honduras during mid may. Among other things we want to spend one week in Roatan to do some diving/snorkelling. So we are wondering whether we need to pre book accomodation or if we can just find an okay place to stay as we arrive? At the moment we're thinking West Bay. We would be grateful for any advice/tips :)

Thanks

I went to Roatan over Memorial Day late May to early June, and stayed in the West End, there was no issues finding a place, though the newest place was sold out, CocoLobo. But the Sea Grape (Old School) and Halfmoon Bay had vacancies. I had a small duplex room/deck/hammocks at Blenny's just outside town. West Bay had a lot options as well, its more touristy and developed, not as rustic and island feel as West End, so two different feels. It did not appear to crowded at either to me, it seemed happy hour at Sunset 1 bar would hold everybody in each place...haha

I agree with PP you will probably have better luck in West End than WB for walk up accommodations.

It really depends on what kind of traveller you are - in other words, do you like the simple back packing way of life (and vacationing) or more of a high service hotel? West End is great for the first type of traveller but if you wanted a bit more on the higher end - you would wany West Bay and I definitely recommend making your hotel reservations prior to arriving at West Bay.
