Isla Mujeres Budget Hotels -Maya Caribe,Hostels,.. Feb 2013
Ive been to IM a few times and stayed at Poc Na, Maya Caribe and the place next door to Maya Caribe ( name?). I was last there in early Dec.07. Does anyone know if it is possible arrive without reservations ( say Feb 16@ 5pm :) and find a private room with a smooth mattress for under 40? Is Maya Caribe even bookable on line( 2 sites listed it but wouldnt reserve). The place next to the MC was a little bit of an upgrade but still economical. I dont expect it to be 1990 or even 2007 but Im hoping I can still find a few hole in the walls to eat and sleep in.Thank You3
The worst mattress I've ever slept on In my life was at a hostel in Baja that had brand new, exceedingly cheap bunk beds. The bed bowed towards the middle, like a hammock, and the mattress was just a pad of cheap, lightweight foam. The floor would have been better. My biggest complaint with economy lodgings in Mexico is that the sheet always seems to end up an a tight ball underneath me in the middle of the bed around 3:00 dark thirty.
As you get off the ferry, look for the tourism office to the left. Ask for Marielos. She has a hostel with semi-private rooms, competitive with Pocna in price. But I'm afraid the beds there do that economy room 3:00 dark thirty thing, too.

Thanks Ryon. Ive had a few of those beds. In Papantla one had a pristine clean , well fitting sheet but below it lie an entire ecosystem. Maybe Ill take my sheet clamp thingies.I noticed a few hostels looked like they had slippery plastic mattress covers ..ewhh.
