Monterey to Las Vegas

Hi there,

My partner and I will be in Monterey for the MotoGP at Laguna Seca around the 18th of July and after the racing is finished we are looking to drive to Las Vegas.

Can anyone suggest an interesting route that will take us to Vegas over a couple of days or suggest places we should stop at along the way if we drive the conventional route.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Caro

take a full day and drive down the coast and stay at san luis obisop or santa barbara and then head east to vegas.
or if you prefer wilderness over the coast, head to kings canyon for 2 nights.

What are your interests? History? Art? Music? Food? Hikes? Bikes? Night clubs? Strip clubs? Remember, we don't know you and what we like may be what you hate.

Are you on motorcycles or in a car?

We will be in a car. We'll save the night clubs and bars for when we get to Las Vegas. We are interested in seeing some beautiful scenery, perhaps doing some mountain biking if possible - we just generally want to see some different things rather than taking the highway to Las Vegs

Cut east to Yosemite, then over Tioga Pass and down US 395.
Should be some good opportunities for mountain biking along the way.

Definitely head east from Monterey via Merced (not far - 300km) to Yosemite NP, then via Tioga Pass through Death Valley NP (and Pahrump) to Las Vegas - it's outstanding, and a much more scenic trip than down the coast and through Bakersfield.

If you're interested in seeing anything, give it four days. Otherwise, go to Google and you can get an eight-hour route to where you really want to be. Two days isn't enough for scenery.
