Best Car Rental Between Canada and the States

Hi there,

Just shouting out to anyone that can recommend a good and reasonably priced car rental company which allows you to travel one way and drop off across the border. My partner and I are planning a trip through the States and Canada and our first driving journey will be from Quebec City to Washington DC.

Hope this makes sense and hope to hear from some experienced travellers!

You won't find a company that offers that option at a reasonable price.

The normal thing to do would be to rent one way within Canada, take public transportation across the border, then pick up a one-way rental within the US.

With the advent of the cruise business here in Vancouver we see more one way rentals being dropped off here.

Those cars must be returned to the USA by someone but you'll need to do a lot of clicking and better yet phoning companies-the large ones like Avis & Hertz-to learn the details.

Agree with everyone who has posted...crazy expensive to do a drop off from Canada to the USA and most Canadian rental car agencies won't even consider it!!!
Here's an alternative idea. Drive from Quebec City to Niagara Falls. Drop off there (there will be a less surcharge to do a one-way in Canada but it still might be pricey). Then enjoy Niagara Falls.

Then take the CoachCanada bus, which costs $10 per adult, from Niagara Falls Canada to Buffalo Airport.
The cost to fly one way from Buffalo Airport to Washington DC is around $70!!!!! CHEAP!!!
