March 2013 in central Chilean Patagonia: suggestions + travel partner?
Castellano más abajoHi,
I'm a female solo traveler heading to the central part of Chilean Patagonia (roughly Cochrane to Puerto Montt).
I have all March and my plan is to start from Cochrane and visit Estancia Chacabuco, do a day loop there and maybe hike to Jeimeni NP + hike/hitchhike to Chile Chico, get to Lake General Carrera to see the Marble Cathedral and keep heading north. I want to stop in Queulat to see the famous glacier (and anything else if reasonably close or worth the effort :) ) and then maybe Chiloé. I'm still not sure of what else I want to do, there are so many beautiful places and not enough time!
I've traveled and hiked in Patagonia before, that's why I'm focusing only on this area this time.
I plan on moving around mostly hitchhiking, busing when needed. Once in Puerto Montt I'll probably take the ferry back to Punta Arenas because I need to head back south. It all depends on how much time I spend in the region.
Any suggestion? Anyone has hiked from Estancia Chacabuco to Chile Chico? Any info about Queulat? I know you can access it from the carettera Austral, I'm just not sure of the distances.
I'm also looking for someone to join since I'm not going to hike alone and it's safer for hitchhiking too.
I have a 2P tent, sleeping bag & mat.
Safe travels!
Anna

Hola!
Gracias!
Anna

Hi Anna,I'm not sure if the timing will work, but I'm going to be starting in Torres del Paine then heading up north, first through El Calafate and El Chalten, and then in the area you'll be in Chile. Since I'm starting in mid-March pretty far south, I probably won't get to central Chilean Patagonia till about March 27th/28th. Will you still be there, or is that too late?
Cheers, and happy trails!
