Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but this is the type of question you may also want to post that question to Tripadvisor's New York City forum.

Zinc Bar, Cafe Vivaldi.

Also, I just went to Cornelia Cafe for one of their jazz nights and would recommend it. Schedule here: http://corneliastreetcafe.com/performances.asp

I had no idea that there was Jazz for different age groups...!

Find a place that has Jazz...and just go there...don't worry about age... The West Village People are very tolerant...

Perhaps the OP was more concerned about the style and vibe of the venue, rather than the form of the music ... although there are a wide range of jazz forms (from very cool minimalism, through to in-your-face ragtime) - some of which might correlate strongly with age.

No,
there are not.

Just kidding. I don't really know the scene, but I know going to the Blue Note gives you bragging rights.

Why do Americans need bragging rights so much ... you Yankees are a mystery to us modest Southern Hemisphere denizens.

And I still think the various styles of jazz might relate to when you first were introduced to it (therefore age). I like Oscar Peterson and Dave Brubeck - but they're not for everybody. I like Miles Davis on trumpet too, btw.

If you check out the Zinc Bar website, you'll see 9 varieties of jazz. All at the same venue, on different nights.

I like the 55 Bar, on Christopher Street, in the heart of the West Village. It's small, dingy and uncomfortable but unpretentious and with lots of character and great performers. It's not expensive either. Check the schedule on their website, it's recommended to arrive between performances to increase your chances of finding a table or bar seats available.

Woody plays at Joe's Pub.

I didn't know that jazz was age specific. Maybe you should hook up withthe 60 somethings in the other Jazz thread.
