Tegucigalpa Hondorus to Copan Ruinas to La Ceiba and how I did it.

The guide books and everyone I spoke to stated that the Tegucigalpa area that all the bus companies are in is dangerous and to take taxis to and from them. So we took a $7 US taxi from the Granada I hotel to the La Sultana station. There were a couple of other companies right around there as well. The Sultana bus to San Pedro Sula was 140C and it took four hours. It had air and was very cold but very nice. In San Pedro Sula another bus was leaving right away to Copan Ruinas right where we were dropped off with another company. The bus station in San Pedro Sula was pretty nice with a food court and stores as well.
The bus to Copan Ruins was 120C and also took four hours. Both stated travel times were well under four hours but going and coming, each leg took four hours. Be careful that you are going to Copan Ruinas and not Santa Rosa de Copan as Santa Rosa de Copan is not the town you want if you are going to Copan the Ruins.
Copan Ruinas is a tiny town. It is quite nice. As far as location goes, it doesn't really matter where you stay as everything is right there. The bus lets you off at the beginning of town and everywhere is within easy walking distance. One note, my guide book has a hostel called Youth Hostel en la Manzana Verde listed. It is no longer there. However another hotel is in the same location. We stayed at the La Posada de Belssy on the same street as the bus let you off. It was super clean with firm beds, nice tvs, kitchen, wi-fi, small rooftop pool. $18 for a private room with hot water shower and tv.
We got our laundry done at Victoria's store. We went to a few different places and they all weighed our laundry. The scales were very different - 4 lbs difference so the price can really vary. Victoria's wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive but we liked them so we went with them. The laundry was cleaned and ironed and we got it back the same day.
The park central is a nice park. The Museo Regional de Arqueologia is right on the square. $3 US to get in. You can do the whole museum in 15 minutes but there is a tomb of a Mayan woman and her skeleton is on display. A few of the alters, pots, jade, tools and ceremonial things found in the tombs were on display as well. It was really nice and worth a half hour of your time if you are really into the ruins or just want to see the human remains.
On the same side as the museum in the Municipalidad is a photo display of the first archeological expedition to Copan. It was free and pretty good.
You can walk to the Copan ruins from town down a nice sidewalk. It is about a KM. The ruins are pretty nice. The detail of the carvings were better than in any other ruins I've seen. There are different areas so make sure you keep walking south. Take water and sunscreen. There is a little store that has water but it is a little bit of a walk once you get into the ruins. The nature trail is also a nice walk. If you like Macaws, you will love the entrance to the park as we saw about 10 of them in their breeding area.
If you are trying to get to La Ceiba before dark from Copan Ruinas, make sure you leave early - by about 7am. The last local bus is 7am. If you miss that, the next one is 10:30. Between then you have to take mini buses as follows. We left at 9am to La Entrada (60C), La Entrada to San Pedro Sula (100C) to San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba (120C) and didn't get in till after dark - about 7pm. All the books said San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba would be about 3hours but it took 4.5 hours. (We did have to wait an hour in San Pedro Sula for the next bus as well.) And Copan Ruinas to San Pedro Sula takes 4 hours even though the books says 3 hours. There may be rapid buses that do it that quickly but don't count on it.
Hope this helps and happy travels everyone.
