Sihanukville hotels during Chinese New Year

Just to let anyone heading for Sihanukville in the next few days know most hotels are trebling or quadrupling their prices for the Chinese New Year (10th to 14th). Downtown $10 rooms will be $40 over than period & many report they are already fully booked.
It might be worth hanging off until after this period before heading down.

The period of peak occupancy over the Chinese New Year is very short. In Siem Reap a lot of places are full for the next few days but that doesn't mean that those that aren't yet are raising their prices by that much.

I was buying some food in my local market and noticed that the price of cauliflower had doubled for the new year

Some hotels in Sihanoukville, Orchidee Guest House being one, told me just last week they don't raise their prices at all during high season or special periods like Chinese New Year. However they also told me they don't lower them during low season. I didn't even notice a lot of Chinese in Sihanoukville anyway, Thailand is a different story though.
