travel solo - 2 weeks hondura and el salvador
I am a female traveler. Honduras, El Salvador and Panama are the 3 countries i have left to visit in C America.I will be travelling solo 1st 2 weeks of april. I either fly into San Salvador then head to the coast to learn to surf......then check out some nearby towns, then bus over to Honduras to Gracias/ Copan etc. I fly out of San Pedro de Sula. I did not book my flight yet, so, i may potential reverse the order of my itinerary.
Any recommendations for 2 weeks?
Also, is it dangerous in the 2 countries?
Thanks

El Salvador - El Tunco is nice for surfing lessons. Bus 80 from La Libertad will get you there - about 20 minutes. El Zonte on bus 80 is a really pretty beach so try to take at least a day trip there. It is just up the road from El Tunco. There is also a backpackers right on the beach if you want a more laid back beach instead of El Tunco. While we were there, the direct bus from San Salvador or El Tunco to Nicaragua books a few days in advance so plan accordingly. One girl in San Salvador said she was told 4 days in advance and it wasn't any special holiday or anything. We local bused it down to Honduras we had plenty of time to do that.
Copan Ruins is a great little town. We just left there today. You can walk to the ruins from town. It is only about a KM. San Pedro de Sula is about 4 hours from Copan Ruins. They say it is less but both there and back, it took four hours. San Pedro de Sula can be really dangerous. More so that other places. If you can not fly from there, I would probably change it. I don't have another option but every one we talk to tells us to be really careful there and to not use the city buses or walk around much. We were just in the bus station (pretty nice one) and felt safe there. Does anyone have any suggestions on other places to fly from or if it is ok to stay/fly out of San Pedro Sula?
Happy travels!

Thanks for both of your replies. Couple more questions though....1- how long did it take to get to honduras from La Libertad? Also, you said to bus from Libertad to EL tunco. Are there no hotels/hostels at El Tunco or any of the beaches? Would flying out of Tegucigalpa be better? Another alternative, I am thinking perhaps stay a night in a nearby town (Tela or La CEiba) then take a taxi to San Pedro Sula to fly home.
2- How long did it take for you to get from Tunco to Utila? How do you get to Utila?
Thanks

mmmm....from the Airport you can take a taxi to the beaches El Tunco or El Zonte, is more easy way to go.
there you can take surf lesson,
hostel? in El Tunco: La Sombra or la Guitarra and in El ZOnte: Esencia Nativa hostel.
----
After you can go to the Ruta de las Flores, the nice town are Juayua and Ataco.
Hostel? Anahuac Hostel in Juayua, i think is the best option.
----
then you can go to Santa Ana and hike the Santa Ana Vulcano or the Coatepeque Lake.
Hostel? the Casa Frolaz Hostel for me is the best option, nice place with a big garden, and there you can take the Shuttle from there to Copan Ruins is 4 hrs aprox for $30 i think
----
In Copán you can see the Hostel Iguana Azul, Manzana Verde or Via Via Hotel.
And there you can ask in Headman Alas Bus for the direct bus to La Ceiba and there Utila.
from that side of the country, Honduras, is more easy take your fly in San Pedro Sula.
