1According to local legend the first dragon was born to a woman named Epa who gave birth to "twins" - a baby boy and a baby lizard. As the lizard grew it's eating habits changed and it began to consume the kampung's domestic animals so, reluctantly, it had to be banished to the forest. Because of the 'blood ties' the lizard (Komodo dragon) comes back to the kampung to be re-united with it's 'twin'. You can pick your friends, but you can't choose your relatives.
BTW news of the dragon first reached the 'outside world' in 1917 when a Dutch pilot was forced to land on a Komodo beach and then was forced to take shelter in his plane.
