a small camper van & a big dog.... and a baby!Hi everyone!
We are a couple who drove all the way down to Belize from Quebec city with our big Bernese mountain dog.
We just arrived in Belize City. We are picking up my best friens and her 4 months old baby at the airport tmrow. We are all set up for "Rv park/campsites" ..but realising it might not be as easy as we though.
1st; since we cant take our van to Caulker & Ambergris, we want to store it and....I guess rent a not-to-expensive "Cabana" there. Any suggestion on a storage place thats safe at reasonable price?
2nd; the dog, can we take it on a the water taxis? Will we easily find accomodation?
3rd; mainland.... any amazing turquoise-water-beach with good diving from the mainland? I saw a few spots looking up the net, but bothing looked as amazing as what I heard about Caulker & Ambergris..... is it just the pictures?
Thx for any advise :)

1I can't advise on places to leave a car in Belize City. But you may want to rethink this and go on to Hopkins or Placencia, south, on the mainland. The diving is farther from the shore but the beaches are better than in Caye Caulker, and you could drive there and use the car that you already have. I loved Caye Caulker, but it may not be the best place in your situation. You would need to rent a house or condo, and I don't know about dogs. Certainly the hotels where we stayed did not allow dogs.

6I wouldn't reserve in advance unless it was the last boat of the day (just to make sure).
If you're in Belize now, you could telephone the water taxi services to check about the dog. All 3 services have websites if you want to email them. The links are on the BelizeBus Travel Guide site.

9Heres some info.... now that Ive done it !!
1-DOG = you need a import permit which can be purshased via BAHA agency. We didnt know, so we paid double to get her in Belize. Your dog has to be healthy, we got to have ALL the vet certificate, th shots has to be up to date, ect...... dont show up with a puppy you adopted in Mexico.... it wont get in!!
2-Water taxi VS DOG = easy & simple. Go with the one at the same place than the bus stop.... if you take the express water taxi, youll need a cage.... extra charges (still working though) I just prefer the "free dog" option!
3- Hotels VS DOG in Caye Caulker: its possible! Costa Maya accepted and later we had to switch cause there were fully booked, so we walked arund and talk to differents places untill someone nice actually said yes! Jeremiha's was our 2nd hotel. GREAT staff, simple, friendly & more "hostel" kind of!
4-BABY (3 motnhs old) My friend didnt freak out with boiling stuff to sterilize them. She used "Cristal bottled water" with the baby and it worked perfectly!
5-The VAN = we stored it at the hotel we stayed in for the 1st 2 nites. We paid 10$US day.
The taxi from the airport to Belize city is 25-30USD !! (just so you know.....)
**Belize IS expensive. Bring USD (which I though was rdiculous, but hey do use it almost as much as their own money (especially in touristic areas).
***There is unfortunatly nothing to see, really, in Belize city! Even if you're craving for some cultural experiences.... or even just for a good restaurant. You can find a few things, but not "worth it" in my opinion!
