zihuatenejo

Hello All
I am going with my wife and some good friends to Zihuatenejo in June.
We love the coast and adventures but also want some authentic Mexico (which is why we are not going to Cabo!). We want good, real, honest, legit spots. Not the spot that bought the ad!

Who has been to Zihua before? What tips can you offer?

Best legit restaurants?
Best hikes?
Best beaches?

is isla ixtapa great or too crowded and touristy?

best snorkeling?
best historic spots?
best place for music and dancing (not nightclub!)?
best secret spot (beach, hike, river, cafe...anything)?

Are there any rivers with waterfalls, swimming holes in the mountains?
We heard there are crocodiles near Playa La Ropa...is this true and are all the rivers dangerous or are some safe?

Best place for sunrise? Best place for sunset?

When I have questions about or want to communicate with people knowledgeable about Zihuatanejo or Ixtapa, this is a website I visit: . If I were you I'd probably cross post your questions there.

Sorry, the forum software isn't accepting the Zihua Rob's Website when I use the advanced editor function, so I'll try it one more time, and if it doesn't appear just search for "Zihua Rob's" on your computer's search function"

I went to Zihuatanejo once on the low cost looooooong bus ride that is not for fancy tourists riding along the uninhabited Guerrero sierra, it's a lovely quiet small city, very clean, modern, I loved it. The bus that takes you there is just 7 km from my job but doesn't collide well with my job schedule. Perhaps the fact that it's a grueling 6 hour ride with a 30 minute stop in roasting hot Cd Altamirano is also a bit of a turnoff. Man that city is daaaaamn hot.

If you visit Zihua they have good early morning surfing and they have cheap ferry boat rides to Playa Las Gatas which sadly is a small beach with a ton of rocks everywhere but has great palapas with top of the line shrimp cerviche & Beer. There is a more expensive ferry boat ride to Isla Ixtapa which I couldn't afford to visit but some people say is a bit of a tourist trap but I can't make any comments. The main beach at Zihua was okay to me, the nice & cold beers made the beach even better.

Nor sure what beach Sailor considers Main but there are 4 including La Ropa, Madera, Las Gatos & Municipal all excellent for swimming Except Municipal.
PS Las Gatos reef is coral not rock. Water shoes a must when walking the far end. Ferry to Ixtapa Isle is the same (40 pesos) as to Las Gatos.
