cell phone with sim card for Peru, Chilie, Bolivia, etc

Does anyone have a cell phone they recommend that would allow to change sim cards between countries in southern South America. I am interested in a very basic, simple phone that would not be such a target for thieves. What brand and where could I purchase it? Better to buy in US or buy in Peru? May travel in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay.

Just search ebay for "GSM Unlocked World Phone." Should be a quad banded phone (850/1900/900/1800 MHz). There are plenty for under $100 that I saw. You could also pick up a cheap android smart phone for around $100 on ebay (like an LG optimus). If you want non fancy looking stick with a flip phone maybe.

All phones in the world come with SIM, US is pretty unique in not using it. For making calls you just need same stuff as in US, all countries you mention work on 1900Mhz GSM.
Buy it on ebay back home.

Brazil and Venezuela operate on 900/1800 Mhz. Argentina uses 850/1900 Mhz.

Ok, I've looked at the title and didn't noticed Brazil. Brazil uses European frequencies of 900/1800 GSM and 2100 3g, so you need quad-band phone

Always use my cell phone I use at home and just change the chip.
Cell phones are more expensive in Peru than in Europe so I guess much more expensive than the US.
