New Shanghai/Beijing Itinerary --- March 29 - April 9th

WOULD LOVE SOME OPINIONS, IDEAS, ADDITIONS, SUBTRACTIONS, COMMENTS ON THIS TRIP ITINERARY

Homeairport - Denver
Trip - March 29th - April 9th

SATURDAY = Depart denver at 8:30am. Arrive at 5:30pm - take train to city and just chill out. Stay up till night time and sleep normal hours to avoid jet lag. Get up at normal time next day for full day of sightseeing.

SUNDAY = huge hotel brunch courtesy of our friends in Shanghai (a bridge between cultures and introduction to his city, friends, food, culture). Then maybe see nightlife in city and try out some local clubs, bars, hotspots. Maybe get some world famous dumplings, drinks, etc and explore his neighborhood (French Concession). Keep recovering from any jet lag we may have.

MONDAY = Sightsee around shanghai (bund, jade temple, nanjing road, street markets, or whatever the coolest stuff to see is - we leave it in our friends trusted hands since he lives there). Maybe try to take in an acrobat show at night if we are not too tired - heard those are awesome there!

TUESDAY = Take a day trip to Suzhou and see the gardens. We will also go to the river town Tongli nearby. We will just need to hustle this day as it's a lot to see in one day and get back to Shanghai. Relaxing night of dinner and hanging out at home.

WEDNESDAY = Leave early in morning to Beijing on high speed train. Arrive that afternoon and meet up with more friends and just relax....maybe go for dinner or walk around to sightsee a little.

THURSDAY = Sightseeing (day trip to the great wall). My friends band The Horde will play a show in the evening (his band tours China - they are really popular there).

FRIDAY = Sightseeing again in Beijing (Forbidden City, Beijing Panda House, Shichahai Lakes, Tiananmen Square, The Legation Quarter, other temples, olympic stadium, etc). I am sure our friends will have some good ideas?

SATURDAY = Leave in the morning from Beijing to Shanghai on train again. Get back in the evening in time to get cleaned up and get ready for a huge multi band concert they are putting on just for us.

SUNDAY = Probably a day being hungover if I am honest, eating delicious food, and hanging around the neighborhood (french concession). I'm sure I will need a recovery day after his big show so no huge plans here! Maybe a good day for a china massage (heard it's a must do). Also - maybe shop a little for some souveniers and gifts. Send some postcards home.

MONDAY = No ideas - any suggestions anyone for our last night in the city? Where to eat, go, explore, what haven't we seen?

TUESDAY = Leave for airport around 10am to leave for denver at 1pm on China Eastern Airlines. Say goodbye!

Remember you cross the International date line. Leave on Saturday and arrive on Sunday.

This is not a typical tourist trip. you are spending time with friends so you should just rely on them.
@bengbubob - his schedules takes that into account as he leaves on Friday.

You will leave Denver Saturday morning, fly almost 3 hours to SFO, maybe 2 hours layover and go through customs and security for international flight on China Eastern. About 12 hours flight, including losing one day crossing International Dateline. Arrive at night, 5:30 p.m., Sunday, at Shanghai airport. You will miss your Sunday brunch plans with friends. Go through customs, travel into city with friends.

On April 9th, you will gain a day, so it will still be April 9th when you arrive home in Denver. Leave Shanghai at 1 p.m. + 12 hours to SFO + 2 hours layover + 3 hours to Denver = 7 a.m. -- is that correct?

Sorry for confusion - we leave US on 29th. Arrive in China on 30th.

When we come back we leave on 9th but still get back on 9th - we don't lose or gain a day going the other way -- too bad.

Your Monday, Tuesday and Friday itinerary is impossible if you think you can see all of those attractions you listed. I'm suspecting at the most your friends will just take you to see maybe two attractions per day in a city.

I think asking questions from us is not very productive. This is not a typical tourist visit--you are visiting friends and much of the trip timing is crafted around this, hanging out, eating, nightlife, and music events. And you have the extra time-snarfing return trip back to Shanghai. The sightseeing is inserted around that. I think you should do your own research, prioritize what "normal" tourist stuff sounds most interesting to you, and just ask your friends how to get to your priority places during your free time. There's really not much we can do for you.

I know this is not an answer to a question but I think we (TT) can still help you re your comment about having a "huge hotel brunch:" don't eat the eggs--save room for the good stuff.

Now that this, along with your arrival time, has been straightened out, don't be discouraged by our replies because we're all funked out by the holiday shut down of TT and the removal of thousands of our posts, many like yours with comments similar to those here--except for mine, of course.
