Ko Samui to Kuala Lumpur - how to do it?
Hi allOn Ko Samui. Need to get to Kuala Lumpur (leaving here 10th Feb, want to get there by 11th)
There seem to be a couple of options:
1) Boat/bus combination, via Surat Thani
2) Boat then train
3) Flight from Samui or Surat Thani
Option 3 is too expensive
So that leaves 1 & 2.
Anyone any experience with either? The three agents we've tried all seem a bit vague about times/practicalities. But then the changes on train seem a bit far apart and journey time slow.
Any ideas about the best route? Timescales? Reasonable prices? Negatives or scams to report?
I'd stress that I'd like info doing it this way, rather than KL to Thailand.

You say flying is too expensive but have you looked at Firefly ?On the 10th Feb Samui to Subang (Kuala Lumpur) is only MYR173 about EUR40

The price the previous poster gave is misleading. The actual cost is 409 MYR.The most comfortable overland option is to take the boat to Surat Thani and then take the train from there to Hat Yai and change there for the train through Butterworth to KL. You dont however say when on the 11th you need to get there. You may have to leave Samui on the 9th.

Krest: beter to either take the international train from Surat Thani(01.23) direct to Butterworth and conNect with train to KL but check first as new timetable shows it terminating at padang Basar or catch the sprinter at 08.05 from ST to Had yai and then get the direct train from Had yai to KL at 16.004
Well the easiest is to take the No 35 to Butterworth that gets in at 13:51 and then take the 14:00 that gets into KL that evening, but if the Train to Butterorth isnt running on time you're screwed.Unless there is a reliable minivan service to KL from Butterworth?

not very long at Butterworth to buy ticket jump off at Bkt Murtajam if taking the train 35 but the direct train from Had Yai at 16.00 is also a good option especially if use mini van from ST to Had Yai6
Air Asia has seats available from Surat Thani to KL on the 9th for US$71.30 all in. I don't know how much money you'd save doing it overland, but it's bound to be much more of a hassle,8
The Air Asia flight leaves Surat Thani at something like 10.30am so its either get a really early ferry or cross over the day before.
