Mallorca

We will be first time visitors to Mallorca, does anyone have suggestions about how much time to stay on the island? We will have anywhere from 4 to 10 days. Any recommendations as to where to have "home base" on the. Island?

Lovely island when you stay away from touristy places. just spent and easily spent 3 weeks there last summer. if you want to get away from the crowd stay at the north west coast ie we stayed in Deia which is a lovelyplace and rent a car...
Best of luck.....and google rentals in deia.

What are your interests it is very hard to give good advice is we have no idea what you want to do. Soller is beautiful town just above the port of the same name. I bustling lively town with good transport links to Palma. There is ome great walking in the area, the paths are well signposted and easy to follow. There is a beach at Port Soller not the best but still nice to chill out on. Soller has a very good weekly market on a Saturday, and has some great restaurants. You could easily spend a week there is interested in walks.

I agree with that.
Also, do you want to stay on the coast or is an inland location fine with you. Do you want to rely on public transportation or are you willing to rent a car. Do you want your base to be in a town, a village, or on a more remote location.

Re #1: Deia is an expat ghetto. A pro for some people, a con for others.

How much do you want to spend? Some of the well known towns and villages in the Tramuntana mountains offer mostly expensive accommodation, not affordable for everyone.

Hiya, Mallorca is a lovely place and Sollere is just beautiful, I loved it there but the trouble is, it might be a bit out of the way. I stay on the South-East of the Island which wasn't touristy at all, but a hire car came in handy to get to other places on the Island. I only went there for a day but Alcudia is very pleasant as well.

I wrote a blog on my trip to Mallorca today so feel free to have a read...

Also, I would suggest to keep an eye on your stuff in Palma. Whilst by boyfriend tried to ease a blister on his foot we had some gypsy's come up to us and put some plants down our tops (I know, oldest trick in the book) and then tried to go for my purse. That's the trouble in every capital around the world though unfortunately.

Enjoy the sun!!
