Taiwan-Japan

After a business trip toTaipai, I can spend a few extra days and see more of Taiwan or should I go to Kyoto? If Kyoto, fly into Tokyo and take train to Kyoto ? I am a good traveler, fairly adventurous, and culture/history are my must dos when I travel ? I will be traveling 06-13 from the US.

Given your interest in culture and history, I think Kyoto would be a better choice for you. (Taiwan's recorded history is not very long; Japan's is millenial.) No need to fly into Tokyo....that just increases the time and hassle of the journey. Fly into Osaka/Kansai International Airport (KIX) and there are direct trains (about an hour) from the airport to Kyoto station. (Google Haruka trains for more info.) If you have time, visit Nara as well (about 45 mins fm Kyoto.)
