5-6 days
I have 5-6 days to waste in July in South America (will be in Rio for work). I have travelled around Sth America before, I would like to see something I haven't seen before. Ideas I have are Iguazu, Easter Island, or Bogota/Cartagena. Another option would be the Galapagos Islands but I might not have enough time to make it worthwhile. Any suggestions or favourites from this list? Am very interested in whether people who have been to Easter Island have found it worthwhile.1
Iguazu is the logical option seeing you are in Rio, but that is only 2 or 3 days.Easter Island is a bit out of the way, but I have never been so I do not know if it is worth it or not.
I would choose the Bogota/Cartegena option but maybe replace Cartegena with Medellin.

if you are already in Brazil, as above Iguazu is a good option.Other logical choices would be to fly to Manaus and spend 5 days in an amazon lodge/tour (not sure if there are direct Rio-Manaus). Tour in the Pampas maybe? If you prefer cites over nature then Buenos Aires should have a direct flight from Rio that isn't too long. Colombia is a long and expensive way from Rio for 5 days, but I loved Colombia.
The Galapagos was probably been my favourite place after 1 year in South America, but 5 or 6 days is probably too short. Maybe wait until you can get at leasst a week (we spent 2).
