Apartment accomodation in Oct 2013 in LondonIn Feb/March 2011 we stayed at the Aspen Apartments in Paddington, a 5 minute walk from the tube station which we found very convenient.
We're returning in Oct 2013, arriving 10th Oct actually, and we're on the hunt again for apartment accommodation for a 7 night stay in London.
We feel rather confident now in using the tube, but still would prefer staying somewhere close and handy to a tube station, but in London itself of course.
Back in 2011 we paid something like $1,800 (AUS) for 7 nights (at the Aspen) I think, so I'd suspect we'd be hoping for something like this again.
I'd like to hear from other folk on their recent experiences.

1Have a look at the Citadines chain - not cheap, but should be more or less within your budget, and in terrific locations in the heart of London.

2Onefinestay is something we used on our trip to the UK last year. We ended up with a fantastic apartment in Pimlico. Prices will vary depending on your length of stay and when you book, but it is really worth checking it. The company offers an amazing service. I found it to be the best of both worlds - the freedom of our own place, with the back up of a reputable company (and the goodie basket on check in, as well as an iPhone for use during our stay were all wonderful)
We also had a few nights in a chain place, and that wasn't as good at all - or not if you actually plan to cook and want somewhere comfortable as opposed to serviceable for a week.
This is the other place we stayed (we had a few trips in and out of London over a period of months) and also worked well for us, but not sure if the area is okay for you. It is certainly somewhere I'd be happy to go back to.

3If you liked the other apartments so much why not stay there again. It doesn't really matter where you are centrally in London.

4I stayed in an apartment in London which I rented from http://www.bigredlondon.com/ . It was in Clerkenwell which I hadn´t heard of before but it looked great so we took a chance. It turned out to be really central and good for getting to the cool happenings in Shoreditch as well as to London Eye and Covent Garden in a few minutes. They have nice-looking apartments in other areas too.

5There is an exxcelleny worldwide system of a sort of homestay, normally withiout breakfast but is cheap and well-monitored, both by owners and guests'
It's called airbnb.com and costs about £50 per nite in London. We are not permitted now, quite rightly, to promote any supplier but there are thousands on this list.
