Bogota to Villa de Leyva

How long does it take to drive from Bogota to Villa de Leyva if you have your own car?
How about to Barichara?

Thanks in advance.

To Villa de Leyva, I guess it would take a couple of hours. It's my best estimate, as I travelled by bus.
Barichara is much longer trip, it's close to San Gil.

1) To Villa de Leyva:

If you are interested in doing this in the least time then I suggest going via Puente de Boyacá rather than Chiquinquirá (more peajes, but faster route). You turn left immediately after the Puente to Samacá and thus avoid Tunja. This route takes between 2:15 and 2:45 from the city limits of Bogotá. Time taken in the city depends where you are starting from and on traffic. At rush hour it can take an hour and a half to get from the centre to the city limits. Early on a Sunday half an hour or so.

If interested in seeing more of the area then you may wish to go via Chiquinquirá and return via Puente de Boyacá (or vice versa), which will give you two different areas to see. The western route has more truck traffic and takes around 30 to 45 minutes longer than the eastern route.

2) to Barichara:

From Bogotá to Barichara you can go via Chiquinquirá or Tunja to Barbosa, after which you continue to San Gil and then up the hill to Barichara. From San Gil Barichara is around 20 minutes (google maps is way off). The last time I came back from San Gil it took 5:10 from San Gil to Bogotá (around Parque 93).

If you are thinking of visiting both, then I suggest travelling first to Barichara, and returning via Villa de Leyva. If you want to do this, then on your way back from Barbosa to Tunja, at Arcabuco turn right and take the direct road to Villa de Leyva (the last section of this road is fairly potholed however this brings you into Villa de Leyva from the north and avoids Tunja.
