The Shard - open for sight-seeing
The viewing platform of the London Shard is now open.Higher by quite a long way than the London Eye, at 800 ft it will probably become its rival for people wishing to see further - as well as being a great platform for all you photographers with a "350 degree view at Level 69, offering views over the city and 40-miles into the surrounding counties. Whilst you drink in this incredible sight, multimedia displays bring the past, present and future of London to life."
The lift that takes you up must be an experience in itself as it takes only one minute to reach the viewing platform.
But it will cost you. The cheapest tickets for the London Eye are at present £17.28 for adults (seniors £13.77) with online booking in advance.
Cheapest online adult tickets for the Shard are £24.95 (@ theviewfromtheshard.com) or £24.50 from goseedo.com (no senior concession on either site). Both sites offer half-hour time slots so you won't get longer for your money, although you will get all that time up on the viewing platform at maximum height.
However, there's an app from the Guardian newspaper that will give you the experience without paying the price: just google for 'The Guardian offers a free view from The Shard'

I'd love to visit, but I have a fear of heights - the London Eye was almost more than I could cope with, so not sure if I'll be brave enough to tackle The Shard ... but it is tempting ...4

You can combine it with visiting the loo a nice extra venue, since not all bobbies tell us, tourists, to use the colourful garden of the French Embassy. (as was suggested in a previous thread)
