Antigua-Flores

I plan to travel from Antigua to Flores and understand that ADN and Linea Dorada both operate night buses from Guatemala city to Flores. Can I book tickets for this when I'm in Antigua at the bus terminal (maybe day before travel) and is one better than the other? Also have I correctly understood that it is more advisable to get a shuttle bus into Guatemala from Antigua rather than a regular bus?

Finally, my flight back to London leaves from Guatemala city at noon, so I assume that check-in is approx 10am. If I'm traveling into Guatemala airport from Antigua how long do I need to leave for travel - will there be rush hour traffic at this time of morning. Thanks

I'd catch a 8:00am shuttle to the airport from Antigua. The travel time at that time of day is 1-1.5 hours. Normally the shuttles go to the airport first, then on to other locations. This has been the case for me on my trips to Guate. to cacth a Linea Dorada bus to Mexico.

From what I've read on this forum Fuente del Norte offers the best overnight service as it has the newest fleet of buses. As you can see on this schedule they have several departures from GC to Santa Elena, outside Flores
http://www.grupofuentedelnorte.com/index.php/itinerarios I wouldn't buy a bus ticket in advance in guatemala unless they can offer you a good deal that includes transportation from Antigua. You can always buy a ticket a few hours before departure time. But you definitely don't want to take a chicken bus from Antigua to GC.

You can get a shuttle at the airport and also a taxies if you want to pay a bit more. You can also arrange for a private pick up which I often do as am usually am exausted after a long trip to reach Guat. I know that there are night buses to reach Flores but I have yet to take one. I like to see where I am going abd also fear theft of my things if I were to sleep on a bus trip. I usually bit the bullet and fly there from Guat City. Flores is a lovely town surround by the lake. Photos see my website wolfcalls.com.

i have actually recently taken fuentes del norte new bus line "maya de oro", just show up up a few hours early and buy your ticket, 9pm and 10pm are the departures. no problems of theft when i was sleeping.
