May Holiday?
Its my mom and dad's 25th anniversary and my 24th birthday in May (yeah, I was a 'mistake' kid :P), and my dad's keen to make a week-long family (us 3) trip out of it.The basic issue is where. The main criteria:
1. Flying in and out of Delhi, where we live.
2. Fitting it all in a budget of 1 Lakh rupees tops, lower the better. We'd rather go somewhere nearer and stay a bit more luxuriantly.
3. My mom is not keen on hills as she hates the drives. Plus, she'll be in post-operative recovery, so something not too much of a physical strain. This virtually cancels out most of the Himalayas.
4. Dad loves travel, but he generally likes a bit of bustle as opposed to pristine beauty.
5. I love photography, so that aspect's a must. As far as destinations go, I like all kinds.
6. And because its with parents on their anniversary, I can't really make them be as intrepid as I'd like. I'd rather they don't worry about finding travel and staying arrangements, so any trip that can be 'mostly' tailored sitting on the internet is preferable, by far.
We've researched a fair bit, and came up with two alternatives:
1. The Andamans
2. Nepal
The Andamans in early May are 'supposedly' normal, as the monsoons hit a bit later. In one week I'd imagine we'd go to Port Blair and Havelock.
Nepal would mean Kathmandu and Pokhra, with slightly better weather than the Indian plains, and simpler flights between the two.
Now I know it sounds like apples and oranges, but which one sounds better? My Dad loves beaches, so he's leaning heavily to the Andamans, but I fear he might get bored there, or worse, we get stuck in bad weather. My mom has no opinion on this, but she loves shopping, as most women do. I'm torn between both.
Any other worthwhile suggestions? I've been through most of the Indian Himalayas, and the parts I haven't been to involve a fair amount of driving which my mom is vociferously against. That makes Bhutan swing between a yes and a no in my head.
Cheers!
